Bryan Hancock

Bryan Hancock is a Partner in the Washington D.C. Office of McKinsey and Company, and he is the global leader of McKinsey’s talent practice.   He is also one of McKinsey’s leading researchers on talent.  He has been a co-author on numerous recent research efforts including, “Race in the workplace: The Black experience in the US private sector,” “COVID-19 and education: The lingering effects of unfinished learning,”  ‘Getting practical on the future of work,” “Lives and livelihoods:  assessing the near-term impact of COVID-19 on US workers,” and “The future of work in America: Mapping the impact on people and places.”  

Bryan serves a wide-range of talent-intensive businesses, including leading employers in retail, transportation and logistics, healthcare, banking, asset management, and oil and gas.  In addition, Bryan serves investors and companies in the human capital management sector.

In addition, Bryan has served a wide-range of public and social sector clients – including those focused on education and workforce development in the context of the future of work.  He has served multiple higher education institutions on their organization and strategy.   In addition, he has co-developed workforce development programs which link educational programs to employer needs.   Bryan has also served multiple foundations on their education and economic development initiatives.    Bryan represents McKinsey on Rework America’s Business Network.

Bryan is a recognized keynote speaker on the future of work, and he is the co-host of the podcast “McKinsey Talks Talent.”   Over past year, he has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Globe and Mail, and Good Morning America, among other media.   Bryan has also published on a range of human capital topics beyond the future of work, including  “Performance Management’s Digital Shift” in MIT Sloan Management Review,  “Redesigning Knowledge Work” in the Harvard Business Review, “Economic Cost of the Achievement Gap in Americas Schools” in the Teachers College Record,  “Ahead of the Curve: The Future of Performance Management” and “Getting Beyond Bureaucracy in Human Resources” in the McKinsey Quarterly,  and “State of Human Capital” in People & Strategy.

Bryan holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude.  He also holds a B.A., with honors, in Government and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa as a Jefferson Scholar.
